Su Yuming in residence at the Cité internationale des Arts

Chinese portraitist Su Yuming composes his canvases like painted collages: faces that take on color and are composed of textures and motifs borrowed from magazine advertisements, from the secondhand shops he visits like museums, from the museum displays he contemplates and transposes into the background of his paintings. An iconography that is both popular and cultured, a pictorial logbook of his time living in Paris.

During his residency at the Cité Internationale des Arts, he presented an open studio inspired by his time in Paris, entitled Dionysus & Flâneur . Sometimes influenced by Walter Benjamin's concept of the flâneur, sometimes intoxicated by Nietzsche's Dionysian spirit, the 30-year-old artist undertook a profound reflection on his art, his maturity, and his representation. In this video, he revisits the changes inspired by Parisian life.
